Worship Ministry

Altar Servers

The Altar Server responds to the needs of the Priest or Deacon during Mass by carrying special objects and carrying out sacred actions for the Mass. Please visit our Altar Server Training page for more information and a training video.

Why is this ministry right for me? “This is an excellent opportunity for young people to become more involved in celebrating mass. Servers get to know the Priests and other active parishioners as friends, rather than just faces. The Mass also takes on a deeper meaning when you’re directly involved, and the training helps the young people develop leadership skills at an appropriate age.”

Are you called to this ministry? “It brings us together and reminds us that we are all part of the mass. We give of ourselves in small ways, but it lets us know that we are the Church. The smile on your face brings joy to people as they receive the Body and Blood of Christ.”

Lectors

Lectors proclaim the Word of God in the first two scripture readings, and assist in creating a pious environment by praying the Intercessory Prayers of the Faithful.

Why is this ministry right for me? “To be the messenger of Gods Word gives you such a sense of presence. Women used to not be allowed on the altar, and now we are speaking the Word, and people are listening! You can’t help but feel you’re inspiring people and bringing the message to life.”

Greeters

Greeters are the first welcoming smile parishioners see when they arrive for Mass. In addition, they answer questions and assist with information.

Why is this ministry right for me? “Being a familiar face to people as they prepare to worship, helps put them in a welcoming mood themselves. We like to think this helps them accept the Gospel message, and the crying babies they’ll be sitting next to! Our credo All are Welcome can be lived out as members come into our church building and are greeted by smiling faces.”

Ushers

Ushers greet our members and provide order in a calming manner to those who need assistance while attending the celebration of Mass.

Why is this ministry right for me? “Many of our members need assistance finding, or getting to a seat. It’s nice to feel appreciated by so many, and people get to know you just from the little that you do for them. It’s also fun to keep track of the members that are consistently late every Sunday, in your head of course. We hand out bulletins, take care of the collection and answer questions if people need to be directed to different areas of the building.”

Art and Entertainment

The Art and Environment Committee decorates the Church throughout the year according to the Liturgical calendar, and oversees the maintenance of the Church’s aesthetic beauty.

Why is this ministry right for me? “Our committee has the wonderful capability all year long to make sure the Church gets decorated properly according to the liturgical year. So if you have a willingness to contribute ideas, or if you like to be an extra set of helping hands, then please join us. We look for people who have an eye for decorating or floral arrangement. We’re busy keeping up with all the seasons. All are welcome!”
